Nutrition Counseling by Phone? Is Skype Really a Complement to In-Person Care?

YES! Though most nutrition consults involve face-to-face contact with clients, Skype and telephone counseling has emerged as a means for Registered Dietitians to deliver ‘Relevant and Credible Nutrition Education’.

Research has shown that Skype and telephone-based interventions effectively boost nutritional health, prevent relapses and communicate clinical advice, especially for clients with limited access to medical services.

  • Specifically, Skype and telephone-based counseling encourages significantly greater improvements in fruit and vegetable consumption and lowered dietary fat/salt intake.
  • Clinically, Skype and telephone-based counseling is associated with improvements in blood lipids and weight management.
  • Skype and telephone-based counseling is meant to complement but not replace, traditional face-to-face, in-person care.

By using Skype/telephone-based counseling as your complement therapy to in-person care, this consult will be as personalized as if you were meeting with your own personal nutritionist in a face-to-face Medical Nutrition Therapy office session. We will set up a specific time for your one-on-one Skype or phone consultation in the privacy and convenience of your home or office. We will have your estimated energy needs calculated specifically to your lifestyle prior to the first consultation. We will send out the prescribed diet information for you to read and apply.

An e-mail consultation? Internet counseling?

YES! Though most nutrition consults involve face-to-face contact with clients, email/internet counseling has emerged as a cutting-edge trend in healthcare and will only continue to grow in popularity and prevalence over the years. After contacting me with your nutritional concern I will respond to let you know if I can help. Next, I will ask you some basic questions in order to provide a more personalized one-on-one nutrition care plan. For your privacy, all e-mail correspondence and consultations are HIPPA compliant.

Recipe Nutrition Analysis
Fee: Depends on Quantity and Type of Analysis.

Have a nutrition analysis done on your favorite family recipe. For the retail industry, a confidentiality agreement is provided with every order. This enables you to know that your recipes are held in strict confidence. A comprehensive or a basic recipe analysis is useful in retail packaging, restaurant menus, cookbooks, catering companies and home meal preparation dinner stores.

Congregate Meal Site Menu Nutrition Analysis/Cost Analysis
Fee: Depends on Quantity and Type of Analysis.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR MENUS. Menus are important. The menu may be one of the few sources of information about your program that the customer receives. When viewing the menu, daily decisions are made about the quality of the facility based upon the food served. A congregate meal service menu analysis (senior centers, meal sites, schools, daycare programs) is evaluated to provide cost-effective, nutritious meals, and other nutrition services; including quarterly nutrition education to program participants and quarterly meal site staff sanitation and safety in-service training – as set by the National Research Council and the Dietary Guidelines (as established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).
